The Legacy of tutulshenam
The tutulshenam Healing House is more than its name implies. It is a place of healing— physical, emotional and spiritual—but it is far more than that. tutulshenam means: On The Right Path.
The tutulshenam Healing House is a symbol of reconciliation that will echo and resound across all BC First Nation communities, whose dominant image of the shishalh swiya is still the never to be forgotten horror of St. Augustine’s Residential School, where children from 51 different First Nations, torn from their families, were sent to be assimilated.
In First Nations across BC, the shishalh swiya is forever remembered for this history; a tragedy that bears no relation to shishalh culture, and to the warmth, kindness and caring that has always defined shishalh Nation people. This project, this landmark achievement, promises to heal wounds and restore connections that will overcome generations of suffering. While no person, project or thing can ever completely erase or remove the intergenerational trauma that continues to this day, tutulshenam Healing House offers a path forward into the light of a better, brighter tomorrow.
We welcome you to join us on this journey of renewal, where in the present,
we build a future that begins to heal the past.
